Poems
Morning and Evening There are two poems on this one page which may be printed out and folded in half leaving morning on one side and evening on the other. I wrote them two years apart. I consider them reflections or "prayers" for use at the beginning and end of the day. By "prayer" I do not mean words offered to a deity out there somewhere, but rather, words that allow me to center on my connection with all things, especially nature. The Evening reflection came to me one night as darkness was settling over a summer evening. Katydids were singing very loudly in the almost-darkness. The pulse of their music helped me see how life is made up of a rhythm. That's what the prayer attempts to connect with at the end of the day. The Morning reflection is modeled after the ancient Celtic breastplate prayers, used to help people pass through dangerous territory undetected. It is my own sense that they attempt to become one with nature and so become protected by nature. People ask me if they may use these. The answer is, of course, but they may not be used in print for profit. If used in print for non-profit purposes, I ask that they not be altered from their original and that authorship be duly noted.
